Dr Petro Frankenfeld is a Specialist Physician with a sub-specialist qualification in Geriatric Medicine. Her key focus is providing comprehensive care to complex patients over the age of 65 specifically with: multi-morbidity and poly-pharmacy, frailty, dementia and frequent falls. She specialises in all spheres of geriatric medicine, including frequent falls, frailty care, dementia, palliative care and comprehensive geriatric assessments.

Dr Frankenfeld grew up in George and completed her undergraduate training at the University of the Free State. She then relocated to Cape Town. Dr Frankenfeld did her internship at Victoria Hospital in Wynberg and then one year of community service in the clinics and day hospitals in the Paarl and Wellington area, where she managed chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and HIV. Stemming from a desire to gain experience and provide the best possible care to patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension with complications like heart failure and kidney failure, Dr Frankenfeld, worked as a medical officer in Internal Medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital for a number of years.  She subsequently trained there as a Specialist Physician and sub-specialist in Geriatric Medicine through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa and the University of Cape Town.

Dr Frankenfeld has a special interest in palliative care. The need for palliative services was also the focus of her MMed. She aims not only to treat her patients' diseases, but also to give holistic care that improves their quality of life.

When not at work, assisting her patients, Dr Frankenfeld enjoys art, reading and spending quality time with her family exploring nature.
